Despite its grimly urban surroundings, this straightforward bar & Thai restaurant appeals to students & locals with an unpretentious drinks list & appetising, inexpensive food. During
the week, lecturers & undergraduates from the two neighbouring universities shoot pool & drink lager in the laid-back bar (decorated with the odd Buddha statue & bamboo sofa). The
avuncular owner has shortened the menu to offer only the most popular dishes. Thai stalwarts such as green curry & pad thai are joined by a fine tiger-prawn panang curry: dry, aromatic &
not overly spicy. Occasional specials like Japanese katsu or Korean curries also prove popular with the international crowd. Two rosés from the short, well-considered wine list are all the rage,
but the bar does a brisk trade in Thai beers, too.
